Run To Conserve
Beyond the finish line, Chemususu Marathon drives environmental conservation, youth empowerment, health awareness and annual free community medical camp, girlchild empowerment tourism growth, and technological innovation.
Chemususu Dam Half Marathon is an environmental conservation organization dedicated to protecting nature, addressing climate change, and promoting sustainable community development through active public participation. We harness the power of sport as a catalyst for environmental action, using our annual conservation half marathon to inspire environmental awareness, mobilize communities, and generate resources for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
Our work focuses on conserving biodiversity, strengthening community resilience to climate change, improving sustainable livelihoods, and protecting vital natural resources. We collaborate closely with women, youth, schools, Indigenous communities, the private sector, government institutions, and development partners to design and implement practical, community-led environmental solutions that create lasting social and ecological impact.
At the heart of our mission is the belief that healthy forests are the foundation of healthy communities. Kenya's forests safeguard the country's water towers, regulate the climate, preserve biodiversity, and sustain the livelihoods of millions of people. Protecting these ecosystems is essential to securing a resilient and sustainable future.
Our flagship conservation initiative is centered on the Lembus Forests, one of the most ecologically significant forest blocks within Kenya's Mau Forest Complex. The Lembus Forest landscape comprises Chemususu, Narasha, Timboroa, Chemorgok, Sabatia, Maji Mazuri, Kiptuget, Koibatek, and Esageri. This biodiversity-rich ecosystem serves as a critical water catchment area, hosting Chemususu Dam and forming the source of the Kerio and Perkerra Rivers within the Rift Valley Basin.
Through the Chemususu Dam Half Marathon, we unite runners, conservationists, local communities, corporate partners, government agencies, and environmental champions in support of forest restoration, watershed protection, biodiversity conservation, climate action, environmental education, and sustainable livelihood initiatives. Every step taken during the marathon contributes to safeguarding Kenya's natural heritage for present and future generations.
